Work

My work is first and foremost about Discipleship.
Its is a Trinitarian discipleship.
Grounding people in a deep trust of the God of the Old Testament. God the Father. The Father’s Love. Finding The Will of God.

Then inspiring people with an high respect for the work of Jesus of Nazareth – the significance of His work and its implications for us today, as the body of Christ.

Then, leading people into a practical expression of the Holy Spirit in the life of community and beyond.

Finally, mobilising people to continue the Trinitarian work of God in advancing His Kingdom throughout the earth.

This is Discipling people around the Word and Sacrament and Prayer. This is teaching people to follow Christ.

Part of this involves learning to contemplate and celebrate the Love of God in our world.
Part of this involves learning key spiritual disciplines
that assist us in engaging with God as a community of disciples.
Part of this involves learning to serve one another with humility and vision.
Part of this involves learning to think ‘Kingdom’ in establishing work in society.: ‘Our Land’.

This is our work: Discipleship.

Now then, as our organization grows, and more staff become part of the work of Discipleship, my task extends to include Leading people in doing this work with me.
My work is not per se, to lead people on their spiritual journey. That is the work of Christ. I, rather, am another person on the spiritual journey – which the Holy Spirit is leading both of us in.

But my work is to lead them in the work of Discipleship. I must lead them in being discipled, in discipling others, and in supporting others in discipling others.

All of this is based on the premise that the message we have is so relevant for our culture that we don’t actually have to make it relevant.
We are also assuming that the very act, process and result of successful discipleship will be so attractive that people ‘fall forward’ as they are called to follow Chirst.

This is our work. This is the work of the community. And in order for the community to function wholly, it requires several things. It needs APEPT (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers). It needs shared festivity, shared resources, communication, hospitality.
It needs people to Turn up. to Give money. to Listen & Share. to Welcome guests.

But these things in themselves is not our key work. These are to support community life. These help maintain the house in which our real work can take place: Discipleship.

We hold out a Personal Invitation to people:
1. Live Free (in God)
2. Grow strong (on Christ)
3. Do Good (through the Spirit)
4. Invest Wisely (with Purpose)

We have a Family Discipleship Agenda - to Teach people to:
1. Trust the God of Creation as our Father
2. Know Jesus as our Leader
3. Walk in the Spirit as our Source
4. Establish the Kingdom as Kings & Priests

Our Key Organisational Priorities are to:
1. Gaze upon the Lord
2. Make Disciples
(who can truly worship God, who know Christ,
who walk in the Spirit, who represent the Life* of God on earth)
3. Serve in Community
(Turn up. Give money. Listen & Share. Welcome Guests)
4. Project into Society:

Our Primary SE Asian Societal Contribution is in:
1. Life – giving Spiritual Experience
2. Character Formation
3. Healthy Community Expression
4. Society building World leaders

So my next step is to engage with the work so that I am not only thinking about, talking about, strategizing about… but so that I am actually doing the work of Discipleship for others, with others, to others.

I must get my head out of the general ideas and get my hands dirty in the specific personal.
Herein is my work of discipleship. This is discipleship done through corporate worship experiences, life* sharing, teaching and active example.

I also need to lead a group of people to join with me in doing this work of discipleship and in shaping a supporting infrastructure for this ongoing discipleship community.

My Life:
1. Growing in Christ
2. Caring for my Family
3. Discipling a new generation (through large group, small group, teaching, example)
4. Leadership (through pulpit, leaders’ training, staff empowerment, mentoring)

And all the other noise? Achieving something grand? Gathering a crowd? Proving my worth? What is that all about?
In the presence of God, all of these things are simply unnecessary. Its only when I am out of the presence of God that I feel I need to substitute His presence for ego, pleasure, power, security etc.

Be immersed in His love and purpose. Be inspired by His leadership and example. Be engaged in the work he commissioned us to do. Be filled with His spirit and His life*.
